I guess their interest would vary vastly. Younger children prefer stories with a simple plot. They don't want stories that are over their head. That's why when the toddler read storybooks, they focus on the illustrations rather than the text. But for those preschoolers, they actually prefer stories with a complicated plot. Simple fairy tales don't hold appeal to them. They like some fantasy stories that have roller-coaster storyline.
