国王的新衣

There was a king who was more

interested

in

clothes

than

his

kingdom.

从前有一位国王，他对漂亮衣服的兴

趣胜于一切。

He spent a lot of money and time

buying new clothes.

他花了很多的金钱和时间购买新衣。

One day, two young tailors

appeared and suggested making the

most beautiful clothes for him.

一天，来了两个年轻的裁缝，他们声

称能织出世界上漂亮的衣服。

But they told him that the clothes

were not visible to fools.

但是这件衣服愚蠢的人看不见。

Over time, the king was very

curious about the clothes the tailors

made.

过了一段时间，国王好奇裁缝的衣服

织得怎么样了。

So he ordered his servants to go

and check.

于是他命令两个侍臣去看看。

其中一个侍臣惊讶地发现，什么衣服

也看不到。

他不想让自己看起来愚蠢。

So he lied and said that beautiful

clothes were being made .

于是他谎称裁缝们正在编织漂亮的衣

服。

The other servants lied as well, 

using the same reason.

另一个侍臣也用同样的说法敷衍了过

去

Eventually, the king came to

check himself, but he could not see

any new clothes.

后，国王决定亲自去看看，但是他也

什么都没看见。

He was afraid that the people

would think he was a fool.

他害怕人们会认为他是一个愚蠢的国

王

于是假装对自己的“新衣服”很满

意。

Of course, the tailors were

crooks.

显然，这两个裁缝是骗子。

The dressed king, actually naked, 

went out into the streets.

穿着“新衣服”的国王，来到了街

上。

In the eyes of everyone, the king

was wearing nothing.

虽然在所有人眼里，国王什么都没

穿。

但是他们纷纷夸赞国王的新衣服。

Everyone was afraid they would

look stupid, otherwise.

都害怕自己被认为是愚蠢的人。

突然，一个小男孩大喊：“国王什么

都没穿啊!”

The people and the king realized

the truth.

国王和周围的人都意识到了真相。

The king was embarrassed.

此时，国王狼狈不堪。
